Communications Manager Summary

The Communications Manager will work closely with the leadership team to implement all aspects of marketing and communications including content development and execution across all media (press, web, email, social, digital, events, print) both for internal and external audiences. In addition, this position will support development; raise the organization’s profile and reputation; and help enhance the learning culture of Northwind Art.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Support the leadership team with the overall development, planning and management of Northwind Art across all pillars
  • Coordinate with Education/Strategic Director to implement all marketing communication strategies
  • Manage marketing communications budget and meet revenue expectations
  • Copywriting and copy editing for both print and online content from approved brand messaging and other sources provided by leadership team
  • Building and growing social media presence
  • Collaborate with Education and Exhibits teams to provide regular email newsletters
  • Write and publish press releases, as directed
  • Project management for marketing materials including ads, posters, signage, rack cards, etc.
  • Collaborate with Design Director on marketing materials
  • Collaborate with Media Specialist to on video content
  • Coordinate with Development Manager in the creation of grant content and narratives
  • Update website with new content according to established formats
  • Publish video content on YouTube
  • Manage distribution of print materials
  • Simple manipulation of photos and videos for publishing (cropping, sizing, etc.)
  • Coordinate with Education/Strategic Director to implement all marketing communication strategies
  • Act as organizational liaison for press and marketing relations
  • Regularly report on advertising and marketing results/outcomes
  • Seek new marketing opportunities to further organization goals including partner marketing, regional marketing, and new media
  • Stay current on arts, culture and non-profit organization marketing trends and best practices
  • Manage marketing vendor relations and consultants


  • Demonstrated leadership skills, ability to lead and motivate others and show concern for people and our community
  • Creative, strategic, and well-organized mindset with great problem-solving abilities
  • A “self-starter” with the ability to multitask
  • Outstanding knowledge of data analysis, reporting and budgeting
  • Strong interpersonal skills and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent design and creative writing skills
  • Demonstrated organizational excellence in handling, directing, and prioritizing multiple assignments/projects with a keen attention to detail
  • A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel
  • Excellent computer skills in programs such as Squarespace, MailChimp, MS Office Suite including PowerPoint, Basecamp, Adobe Suite, Web Authoring software, Raiser’s Edge, or other similar software


  • Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of marketing communications experience required
  • Advanced training preferred, or 5+ years’ experience in marketing

Communications Manager Status and Compensation

Our Communications Manager is a full-time position offering $48,000.00 to $52,000.00 annually depending on experience. This position reports to our Executive Director and collaborates closely with our leadership team.
